The Solingen attack in Germany, where a Syrian man fatally stabbed three people has led to Germany deporting 28 Afghan nationals, marking the first such deportation since the Taliban regained control in 2021. The deportees were all convicted criminals, according to Chancellor Olaf Scholz’s spokesperson, who stated “Germany’s security interests clearly outweigh the interest of protecting criminals and potential terrorists,”
Interior Minister Nancy Faeser highlighted that the deportations demonstrate the rule of law is taking action. However the decision has sparked criticism from the Green party and pro-refugee groups, who argue that deporting individuals to Afghanistan risks their lives.
