In a show of growing influence, Swedish Member of the European Parliament Charlie Weimers (Sweden Democrats, SD) welcomed colleagues from across Europe to Stockholm for the European Conservatives and Reformists (ECR) study days—a key event aimed at showcasing Sweden’s policy shift under conservative influence.

”We’re organizing the ECR study days here in Stockholm where we will talk about the major challenges facing Sweden and Europe—from mass immigration to declining competitiveness, and to showcasing Swedish culture. All the beautiful things we have in Sweden, our traditions, what makes us as Swedes feel proud,” Weimers said.

Sweden, currently governed with the support of the Sweden Democrats, has become a case study for conservative reforms. According to Weimers, the shift promised by his party is materializing.

“It is not without pride, because the paradigm shift that was promised is now taking place. We see how the number of asylum applications is decreasing, we see how the new citizenship law is finally coming into effect. So we are going to share how it is actually possible to reverse the trend in a country like Sweden,” he explained.

Weimers emphasized that the gathering brings together conservatives united by a shared vision for Europe.

“What unites us is that we believe in a Europe of sovereign nations, traditions, and a diversity of cultures in Europe. But perhaps I would say that the heritage from Rome to Jerusalem, the Christian European civilization, is what binds us together. What we are all proud of, what we see as an inheritance from our ancestors but also a loan from our children,” he said.

The event marks a significant moment for Weimers and his party, as Sweden’s political transformation gains attention on the European stage.
