Wąsik: “Mass Immigration Has Brought Civilizational Breakdown”

Speaking at the ECR Study Days, former Polish Secretary of State and current MEP Maciej Wąsik issued a stark warning about the consequences of uncontrolled immigration, calling it one of the greatest threats to Europe today.

“Uncontrolled migration… is perhaps the most serious, or one of the most serious, threats to the European Union,” Wąsik said. “It brings huge civilizational changes, causes paralysis in institutions and states. We treat illegal migration as a real, massive threat.”

Wąsik sharply criticized the EU Migration Pact recently adopted by Brussels, calling it inadequate to address the core problem. “We should focus on defending the border, not on managing the consequences of illegal migration,” he said.

Drawing on Poland’s own experience during the Belarusian border crisis, Wąsik touted the success of hardline border defense. “We reduced crossings by 98%. We built a barrier, deployed the army, police, border guards — and we stood firm,” he stated. “The entire European Union should act the same way.”

He condemned the EU’s resistance to so-called “pushbacks” and criticized Frontex, the EU border agency, for being too lenient. “They’ve appointed so-called humanitarian officers who paralyze the work of border guards,” he said. “We must stop this political correctness. Illegal migrants are breaking our laws. We should direct legal pressure at smugglers, not border guards.”

Wąsik also highlighted the transformation of Sweden as a cautionary tale. “In my country, Sweden was once a symbol of safety… where you didn’t need to lock your doors,” he said. “Now Stockholm is reportedly the city with the most rapes per capita in Europe. This is what mass migration has brought.”

The MEP emphasized that the upcoming EU elections are crucial for reversing the trend. “We want Europe to be a safe place for us, our children, and our grandchildren. Conservative parties across Europe are gaining ground, and we count on the next elections to give them the strength to stop illegal migration.”

He concluded with a call for national sovereignty in migration decisions. “Swedes, Poles, Germans, French — they have the right to decide who enters their countries. That’s obvious.”
